Welcome to the Korn Style Lesson videos. I hope to shed some light here on the tuning, equipment and distortion sounds needed for this type of music. For equipment, ideally you will need a 7-string guitar. Now you can play some of these riffs with a 6 string guitar but you will need heavy gauge strings and will probably have to lower your action. You won't be able to get a lot of the high stuff with the 6-string guitar, but you should be able to play many of the riffs considering most use the top 6 strings. For tuning you will need to tune your guitar from the 7 string standard tuning which is B-E-A-D-G-B-E to a whole step down, which will be A-D-G-C-F-A-D. If you do not have a 7-string guitar, tune your 6 string guitar to the top 6 strings of the 7-string guitar tuning. As far as your distortion sound goes, try to get as much clarity and punch out of your amp as possible. The tuning needed is so low if you use too much distortion the chord changes will not be clear sounding especially in a live situation. Try experimenting with your mids, some claim no mids works well for this type of music. Personally I've found mids to add to the overall sound, but of course this will all depend on what type of gear you're using. Now lets get started learning these riffs!
